Personality; Regina Berry is not your typical sixteen year old girl. Or even your typical lion-tamer.

To say that she is incredibly, incredibly naïve would be an understatement. She was born and raised in the Berry Big Circus, of which her father was the ringmaster. Her mother died when she was young, and a combination of living her entire life in the glare of the circus lights, as well as her father's understandable protectiveness, caused Regina to have an extremely sheltered view of the world. Indeed, for most of her life she was not even aware of what happens to people when they die. After a tragic accident involving an acrobat and a lion, her father told her that when people die they merely become 'a star in the heavens'. Regina accepted this without question.

Regina is almost sickeningly sweet and apparently aware of the fact, although she does not maliciously use this to her advantage. She was swamped with suitors at the circus, and people often melted at the sight of her smile. She is girlish and giggly, and likes sparkly costumes and romance like many of her age.

However, she is also extremely ignorant: of simple knowledge (she has never formally attended school) and logical thought (she believes puppets to be sentient). Moreover, due to her carefree, childish, and oblivious nature, she can sometimes be callous about other people's feelings. This caused her colleague Acro, whose brother was severely brain-damaged in the aforementioned accident, to hold a grudge against her for not understanding the gravity of the situation.

But Regina is dedicated and hard-working. She has been training with the circus for most of her life, and although she can get carried away with her animal-taming tricks (not comprehending the possible consequences or dangers of her actions; thinking everything will work out fine in the end), she is enthusiastic and upbeat, working long hours each day.

More importantly, she swears to wait for the acrobat she accidentally hurt, Bat, to wake up from his coma - as long as it takes. At the end of her father's murder trial, she no longer speaks so easily about death, and realises her mistakes while wailing and crying loudly. But seeing as she still thinks Zimbabwe is a candy land, she has a long way to go before she stops weirding people out as well as enchanting them.

Regina's staff swung through the air in time to the beat.

One, two. One, two.

Paws. Softly treading the ground. Regent, her beloved tiger, paced back and forth in perfect synchronicity. They were a team, an entire, singular being. Working together. She didn't mind that it was getting late, and barely stifled a high-pitched, mewling yawn to prove it.

Dad was gone. (Gone, really? Forever?) But Regent was still here. And the circus was still here. It won't break up. No, it'll never break up. (We'll always be together.)

A prism of circus lights flashed quick across her bright blue eyes - narrowed in concentration - and for one moment, pausing a little to catch her breath, she tossed her head back and giggled, throwing out a wink to the dancers watching in the stands who were already getting ready to go to bed.

One, two. One, two.

One.

"Hey everyone, let's wrap up, okay?"

As she rounded up Regent, gave a goodnight hug to Max ("Sweetie-pie princess!") and listened to one more of Moe's corny jokes, Regina held her head high and clutched her staff tightly to her chest. Where next for the circus? Wherever it goes, it's sure to be an adventure.

Then the next thing she knew, she was standing in a room far too grey and icky for her tastes, and being placidly directed to her new home in the City of the Gods.
